Fraud Detection

Protect yourself from immigration scams

Pause before paying or sharing personal information. These checks identify possible warning signs, not proof of fraud or a guarantee of safety.

Check a suspicious message

Paste a text, email or call script. The check runs on this device only — nothing is saved or sent. Remove names, numbers and document details first.

Practise spotting unsafe requests

  • Caller (simulated)

This is IRCC. Your permit has a problem. Pay CAD 900 in gift cards today or you will be deported.

  • CanArI coach (simulated)

Three warning signs: gift cards, a 24-hour deadline, and a deportation threat. Hang up and check your account on the official IRCC website.

What would you do?

Know the warning signs

Short list of warning signs, in your language. Provisional translations pending native-speaker review; official sources remain in English and French.

Is this a scam?

  • These are warning signs. Find IRCC payment instructions yourself on Canada.ca, not through a message link.
  • No representative can guarantee IRCC approval. A job offer is not a work permit.
  • Do not share passwords. Verify the request through an official channel. Keep evidence and use the official fraud-reporting guidance.

Who can legally help me?

  • Paid advice requires authorization: a consultant in good standing with CICC, a lawyer or qualifying paralegal in good standing with a Canadian law society, or a Quebec notary. You do not have to hire a representative.
  • Use the register linked by IRCC. Match the name and contact details, and confirm permission to practise. An advertisement or certificate alone is not enough.
  • Ask for explanations and keep copies and receipts. Never sign blank forms. You remain responsible for the information in your application.

How CanaDreamers protects you from bad providers

  • Partners see a member ID, not your name, until you choose to release it.
  • Files you share carry an expiry date; every time a partner opens one it is recorded in your access history, and you can revoke access at any time.
  • You can report a partner from your account. Reports go to CanaDreamers staff; the partner is not told who reported.
  • Ratings are accepted only after a staff-authorized service-completion declaration, so a partner cannot rate itself or collect reviews for work that never happened.
  • Licence and phone checks in this demo are simulated and labelled as such; they do not become “verified” claims until the live professional register and SMS services are connected.

Signed-in members can review everything they share, stop sharing, and report a partner from Safety and privacy.

Report it and get official help

Keep evidence privately. If you sent money, contact your bank promptly. Use the official channels below — nothing is submitted from this page.
